Self Catering in Kerry:
This is most probably the most attractive area on the planet. It has enthralling mountains and magnificent costal scenery. Everywhere you go there is a story to be told about its heritage and its history. They say once you have visited Kerry you need never visit anywhere else.
Dingle:
Dingle is set in the mythological western section of Ireland. It has many, many stories to tell and its remoteness and beauty allow you to fantasise about what it was like in rural Ireland many years ago. The landscape is spectacular and is dominated by the Beenoskee Mountains which stand at over 2600feet. The area has the largest concentration of Celtic remains and there are many ring forts beehive huts and stone crosses that tell a story about the past trials and tribulations of the Irish people.
You will no doubt hear the stories about how Ryan’s Daughter and large parts of the film Far and Away staring Tom Cruise were filmed here, and many locals have a tale or two to tell about the nights they spent in the pubs, with these a list stars.
Dingle town itself has a huge natural harbour and you will no doubt see many boats sailing in and out, most of them looking for Fungi the dolphin who has become Dingles main tourist attraction. If you do not fancy venturing out into the harbour, should you acquire a pair of binoculars then you will no doubt be able to see this friendly dolphin entertaining the public.
Dingle was Kerry’s leading port in the 14th and 15th Century and at one point in the 18th Century it became famous for smuggling and even minted its own coinage. The town is vibrant and full of history. Should you decide to venture 2 or 3km outside of the town you will come to a small but beautiful town known as Ventry. This was originally the main port on the Dingle peninsula, it has a large sandy beach with fantastic views, the bay itself is overlooked by the enormous Mount Eagle which has a sheer drop into the Atlantic Ocean.
